Here are the questions red asked me.
What is the best thing about having moved back to Alaska?
I think the best thing is probably that I feel like I'm home again. I'm more comfortable here where there are fewer people and I'm surrounded by nature. I was skeptical that "carmen" would like it here after promising me that we could stay a minimum of 5 years as a trade. I lived in Michigan for over 5 years so she would do the same for me. But to hear her say, after only living here for almost 9 months, that she really likes it here is worth more than anything because I'd follow her anywhere.
What is the hardest thing about having moved back to Alaska?
Ugh, the housing crisis in Michigan and the fact that we're still paying for our (vacant) house there. Add on an ARM mortgage that soon approaches its rate change date and you get two very nervous girls.
Are you someone who spends energy with other people or one who gains energy from interacting with people? Do different people affect this differently?
I think a lot of the time is spending energy but it really depends on the person. I'm a hermit and am finding that I enjoy being home with my girl watching tv and would be perfectly content to stay home most of the time, leaving only for necessities like beer, wine, and comic books. When C and I are really clicking I think I gain a lot of energy from her and she makes me very happy, especially now where everything here is still so new to her so I'm seeing old things through new eyes and it makes everything more exciting.
Where is your home?
We're currently living in my grandparent's house, taking care of it for my mom until we sell our house in Michigan. It's nice because it's familiar but bad because it is very energy inefficient and costs a lot to heat and all the trees have been cut down. We hope to sell our house in Michigan and save up enough to buy a house near my mom's place where I grew up.
What is the best thing about having dogs?
At present? Not much. Both dogs have incontinence issues and cleaning up dog pee is getting very very old. I have OCD and have a hard time getting myself to pet the dogs and it makes me sad but I think the little one understands and she just comes and rests her head on my lap. Probably the thing that makes me the most happy having dogs is that Kasey does this really cute thing where she puts a toy on the floor and rolls on it and she just looks so happy doing it - even if it's a big, clunky bone, she couldn't be happier. The other thing is that I've trained her to eat bugs so I don't have to feel guilty for killing them and she loves it!
